I’m writing to you about Foundwork, a platform helping to connect artists and collaborators across the contemporary art community. We’ve reached out to UCLA earlier on with general information about the site. Now we have a juried grant opportunity coming up this fall, the Foundwork Artist Prize, so we’re reaching out again to select graduate programs to share the opportunity with their students, alumni, and faculty before the September 1 application date.
The Foundwork Artist Prize is an unrestricted $10,000 juried grant to be awarded this October to an outstanding US-based artist chosen on the Foundwork platform. The winner will also receive a studio visit with each of the five inaugural jurors, Helen Toomer, Manuela Paz, DeWitt Godfrey, Tod Lippy, and Becca Hoffman. In addition, two runners up will receive special mention and will be featured in our newsletter and on social media.
Also in terms of our other community engagement, we host an ongoing Guest Curators program on Foundwork where leading art professionals are invited to highlight artists on the site. Recent guests have included Rachel Adams Miller, Chief Curator and Director of Programs at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, SPRING/BREAK Art Show Co-Founders Ambre Kelly and Andrew Gori, and performance and video artist Kalup Linzy, among others.
As mentioned, Artists will need to join Foundwork by September 1 to be considered for the prize. Foundwork normally has a $4/month membership for alumni and faculty and is free for students, which includes a full artist profile on the site and eligibility for our programs.
Please share this information with the artists in your community, and let me know if you’d like to discuss further. We’d love to feature more artists from your school on Foundwork, and would be glad to hear from you any time.
Thanks for considering, and wishing you a great rest of your summer!
All the best,
Dawn Ertl
