UCLA Speak Out for Surgery (S.O.S) Leadership committee

Passionate about local children facing Health Inequities? Interested in Medicine, Law, Journalism, Visual Arts, or Photography?

Speak Out for Surgery (S.O.S) is a new student organization at UCLA. We partner with a local nonprofit to bring FREE surgical care to children across Southern California who are unable to obtain surgical intervention due to insufficient resources or issues with insurance plans. Many of these children suffer from health issues, bullying, and psychological trauma as a result of their medical conditions.

Our duties will include interviewing and photographing potential patients, writing anecdotal and legal pieces based on their experiences, connecting patients with medical and legal resources, fundraising, and planning health fairs in underprivileged areas. As a reward for our effort, the participating medical staff may also permit shadowing during the surgical procedures — a rare experience for most students in the United States!

We are currently recruiting for our leadership committee. Board positions include financial chairs, interview coordinator, visual arts director, outreach coordinator, writing director, and advocacy director. If you are interested, please email info.sos.ucla@gmail.com to receive an application. Our application deadline is Monday, November 26th by 11:59PM. We look forward to working with you!
